Ilsonfootball is a website devoted primarily to the history of Ilkeston Town Football Club, an English semi-professional football team, currently residing in the Blue Square North. The team is playing at the Step 2 level of the non-League Pyramid and are therefore two promotions away from Football League status.
The website is not in competition with the two established websites currently devoted to the club, namely the official club website and the long established unofficial Whiteball Project. Instead, its aim is to fill a void by offering information that the aforementioned sites do not currently provide.
Because today becomes history tomorrow the site will constantly evolve and build. To begin with information will be fairly limited as the ongoing and seemingly neverending research into the football club continues unabated but in time the aim is to have a website that will rival any website devoted to any club in the UK.
There will be final tables for every season, results of every match played including scorers and attendances where known, player biographies, statistical summaries of players' playing records, match reports from the inaugural 1945/46 season through to the present day, and hopefully even a complete set of results and tables for the reserve team.
However, as the website name suggests, it is also intended to incorporate details of senior football clubs based in the town prior to Ilkeston Town FC's formation in 1945, of Ilkestonians who never played for their local club but who had a successful playing career professionally, and similar items, for instance the Ilkeston & Heanor Boys team that reached the last eight of the English Schools' Trophy in 1965/66.
The website is intended for providing information about Ilkeston football to all its followers but hopefully it will also provide enjoyment and interest to football enthusiasts in general. If any parties wish to use any of the information provided within for personal use they may do so without permission. However, I would appreciate it if any of it is going to be used for publication, for instance match programmes, that they contact me first and give an accreditation to the website.
Finally, a massive thank you to the Ilkeston Advertiser and John Shiels for allowing me the use of images from their vast collections. If anyone else has any photos that they feel would improve the site please do not hesitate to contact me.
