ilkeston fans developed their own chant during this season, based on the popular music hall song of the day "after the ball":
after the ball was centred/ after the whistle blew/
plackett ran down the centre/jeffrey's headed it through/
the goalkeeper tried to stop it/but it was all in vain/
for gadsby's had tippled him over/and ilkeston scored again.
nov 7: ilkeston played a night friendly at long eaton rangers and the pitch was illuminated by six manually operated limelights to follow the play (the lights could not illuminate the whole pitch if left in a stationary position). further entertainment included a fireworks display and live music. ilkeston won 5-1 in a match where long eaton were reduced to eight men due to injuries.

notes:
sep 9: first ever competitive match on manor ground. ilkeston were beaten 1-0 at home by heanor town in a friendly on the ground three days earlier.
apr 7: ilkeston led at half time but poor second half cost them runners up spot.
apr 14: replayed fixture from mar 26, ilkeston won initial game 4-2. original tie played in front of 5000 gate, heanor 'keeper bob carlin lashed out at benny plackett who had just levelled the scores at 2-2 and a pitch invasion ensued, referee (mr fritchley) took players off the pitch for 25 minutes before re-starting the game but refused to allow carlin (who had not been sent off) to take any further part for his own safety. manor ground pitch covered in sticks and stones earlier brought onto the pitch by ilkeston supporters. derbyshire fa refused to allow the result to stand and ordered a replay whilst banning carlin from playing for six months.

nov 25: sheepbridge disqualified due to unsuitable pitch, filled with slopes, hollows, devoid of grass and several inches deep in mud, linesmen couldn't see certain areas of the pitch and were "...struck dumb with astonishment not accustomed to playing hide and seek" (ilkeston advertiser).
