STEVE LAMB

Versatile player who could play anywhere in midfield or at full back. Signed from Sutton Town early in 1987 and won a Central Midlands Supreme Division League Cup winners medal that April. Remained a first team regular until February 1988. Debut: 21/2/87 v Oakham United (A). Last appearance: 6/2/88 v Crookes (H). Record: 1986/87 16apps; 1987/88 18apps. Total: 34apps. 

ANTON LAMBERT

PETER LAMBERT
Forward who made a single appearance at home to Arnold on 30/4/83. Subsequently played for Hinckley Athletic and Oakham United.

LAMBERT
Christian name unknown although he could possibly be Anton or Peter (see above). Made 4 appearances at left back during the 1987/88 season following his arrival from Sutton Town. Debut: 12/12/87 v Grimsby Ross (H). Last appearance: 16/1/88 v Oakham United (A).

KEVIN LAMPKIN
Born Liverpool 20/12/1972. Midfield player who started out with Liverpool but made his League debut for Huddersfield Town (13apps) before transferring to Mansfield Town (42apps, 3goals). Joined Ilkeston in Summer 1996 amidst high expectations and scored on his debut but failed to make a mark, making just 8 appearances. Went on to have a decent career in non League football with the likes of Kings Lynn, Macclesfield Town, Hednesford Town and Droylsden. Debut: 17/8/96 v Sutton Coldfield Town (A). Last appearance: 21/9/96 v Racing Club Warwick (H).

JOHN LANGFORD

Born Kirkby-in-Ashfield 4/8/1937. Outside left whose career began at Leicester City but it was at Nottingham Forest (4apps) where he made his League debut. Moved across the river to Notts County (16apps) before moving into non League with Bourne Town, Long Eaton United and Spalding United. Joined Ilkeston in December 1962 and made an immediate impact. Able to deliver crosses with great accuracy and strike a ball with immense power he proved himself to be a most dangerous forward, scoring and creating goals with frequency. Scored 12 goals, including one in the 1962/63 Derbyshire Senior Cup Final victory over Alfreton Town and three penalties, in his 25 appearances. Left in Summer 1963 to join Loughborough United and later clubs included Arnold St Marys, Alfreton Town, Belper Town and Sutton Town. Debut: 8/12/62 v Loughborough United (H). Last appearance: 23/5/63 v Goole Town (A). 

ERIC LANGHAM
Former Kimberley YMCA left winger who joined in Summer 1959. After taking his time to win a first team place on a regular basis he was given an extended run midway through the 1959/60 season and showed considerable promise. Was surprisingly dropped, however, and on returning to the side appeared to have lost confidence. Left after a year to join Kimberley Town, and scored 4 goals in 18 outings for Ilkeston. Debut: 29/8/59 v Sutton Town Reserves (A). Last appearance: 16/4/60 v Ollerton Colliery (H).

DAVID LANGSTONE
Midfield player who spent a month with Ilkeston during the 1996/97 season making 4 appearances before joining Rocester. Formerly with Chasetown, Armitage, Leicester United, Sutton Coldfield Town and Blakenall. Debut: 23/11/96 v Evesham United (H). Last appearance: 14/12/96 v Solihull Borough (A).

CHARLIE LAVELLE
Talented but enigmatic impish Scottish winger once on Queen Of The South's books and who had also played in North America. Joined in early Autumn 1978 and was a first team regular for a little over a year, although he did have a spell out of the team with injury late in the 1978/79 season. Hard working and skilful, he was released in 1979 because of his inability to commit to training. Debut: 7/10/78 v Mexborough Town Athletic (A). Last appearance: 20/10/78 v Mexborough Town Athletic (A). Record: 1978/79 19apps, 1goal; 1979/80 14apps. Total: 33apps, 1goal.

NICKY LAW

Born Greenwich 8/9/61. Vastly experienced central defender who was dominant in the air and had great organisational qualities. Started out with Arsenal but made his League debut with Barnsley (114apps, 1goal). Went on to have a long career in the Football League with Blackpool (66apps, 1goal), Plymouth Argyle (38apps, 5goals), Notts County (47apps, 4goals), Scarborough on loan (12apps), Rotherham United (128apps, 4goals), Chesterfield (111apps, 11goals) and Hereford United (14apps). Joined Ilkeston in February 1997 to give some much needed stability to the defence and was immediately appointed as captain because of his leadership qualities. His effect was instantaneous and the team became hard to beat, moving from below midtable to almost winning promotion from the Southern League Midland Division within a couple of months. Picked up a Derbyshire Senior Cup runners up medal at the end of the 1996/97 season but greater success was to follow. Led the team to promotion in 1997/98 and helped the club reach the FA Cup Second Round for the first time in its history where they led at Scunthorpe United, the goal resulting from one of his trademark long throws, before losing the replay. Left the club at the end of the season and turned out for Stourbridge and Stafford Rangers where he helped in a coaching capacity. Joined Chesterfield as a Football in the Community officer before being appointed as manager. Has gone on to have a decent track record in management, often in difficult circumstances, with spells at Bradford City, Grimsby Town, Buxton and now at Alfreton Town. Debut: 4/3/97 v Tamworth (H). Last appearance: Record: 1996/97 19apps, 2goals; 1997/98 51apps, 2goals. Total: 70apps, 4goals.

WALTER LAW
Born c1931. Highly rated locally, and a young goalkeeper closely watched by League clubs before joining Ilkeston. Made 2 appearances at the start of the 1948/49 season, in the home games against Warsop Working Mens Club and Teversal & Silverhill Colliery on 21/8/48 and 4/9/48 respectively. Didn't play for the club again and subsequently joined Stanton Ironworks. 

CARL LAWRENCE
Born Leicester 14/11/1979. Defender who spent a month with Ilkeston during the Winter of the 2002/03 season. Originally with Lincoln City and played for a number of non League clubs including Nuneaton Borough, Racing Club Warwick, Gresley Rovers, Friar Lane Old Boys, Corby Town, Shepshed Dynamo, Highfield Rangers, Barwell and Bedworth United before joining The Robins. Made 4 appearances including 2 as substitute. Has since played for Coalville Town. Debut: 21/12/02 v Chippenham Town (H). Last appearance: 14/1/03 v Burscough (H).

MARC LAWS

United States born midfielder who showed purpose, an eye for goal and constructiveness. Once on Mansfield Town's books and moved on to Bilborough, Eastwood Town, Long Eaton United and Gedling Town before joining Ilkeston in Summer 2003. Picked up a Derbyshire Senior Cup runners up medal at the end of his first season but rarely figured during the following season and moved to Gresley Rovers. Debut: 19/8/03 v Halesowen Town (A). Last appearance: 30/11/04 v Rocester(A). Record: 2003/04 31+8subs, 9goals; 2004/05 3+3subs, 1goal. Total: 34+11subs, 10goals.

JOHN LAZELL
Made a single appearance as substitute way at Belper Town, whom he later joined, on 4/3/67.

REG LEAKE

Wing half who played in Town's first ever season, his debut coinciding with the club's first victory during which he scored. Liked to push forward to support the forwards and was a good penalty taker. Two of his 4 goals in 17 appearances came from the spot. Later played for local side Rutland United. Debut: 15/9/45 v Brinsley Welfare (H). Last appearance: 2/2/46 v Brinsley Welfare (H).

KEVIN LEAME

Central defender who played an important part in Ilkeston's 1991/92 West Midlands Regional League First Division league and cup double, making 46 full appearances plus one as substitute, scoring 1 goal. Played in Town's final match on the old Manor Ground against Great Wyrley. Left in Summer 1992, moving on to Prory. Debut: 17/8/91 v Wolverhampton United (A). Last appearance: 6/5/92 v Tividale (A).

KEN LEDGER
One of the true Ilkeston greats. A more detailed biography of this outside right can be found on the legends page. Record: 1948/49 1app, 1goal; 1949/50 35apps, 6goals; 1950/51 49apps, 25goals; 1951/52 26apps, 10goals; 1952/53 44apps, 21goals (4pens); 1953/54 42apps, 14goals; 1954/55 45apps, 15goals; 1955/56 42apps, 15goals; 1956/57 27apps, 2goals; 1957/58 15apps; 1958/59 8apps. Total: 334apps, 109goals (4pens).

ADAM LEE

Former Doncaster Rovers, Sutton Town, Armthorpe Welfare and Selby Town striker who had pace but struggled to make an impact upon joining in November 2007. Made 15 appearances including eight as substitute and scored twice. Left at the end of the 2007/08 season and has since played for Frickley Athletic, Goole and Sheffield FC. Debut: 10/11/07 v Prescot Cables (A). Last appearance: 12/4/08 v Frickley Athletic (A).

KEITH LEONARD

Outside left picked up from Gresley Rovers during the 1959/60 season who scored his only goal on his debut but failed to make the position his own. Collected a Derbyshire Senior Cup runners up medal on his last appearance. Left in 1960 and appeared for Ashbourne Town. Made 5 appearances. Debut: 30/1/60 v Shirebrook Miners Welfare (A). Last appearance: 25/4/60 v Buxton (N).

MARK LEVER

Born Beverley 29/3/1970. Very experienced, solid and dependable central defender who spent most of his career at his first club Grimsby Town (361apps, 8goals). Spells at Bristol City (31apps, 1goal) and Mansfield Town (15apps) followed before he joined Ilkeston early in 2003. Helped to shore up Town's leaky defence but was powerless to prevent the inevitable relegation from the Southern League Premier Division. Took over from Danny Holyoak as captain during the 2003/04 season after returning from a loan period at Ossett Town and led the team to the Derbyshire Senior Cup Final. Played regularly at the start of Ilkeston's promotion winning season from the Unibond League First Division in 2004/05 but gradually his appearances became less frequent. Signed for Ossett Town on a permanent basis at the end of the season. Debut: 18/1/03 v Hednesford Town (H). Last appearance: 2/4/05 v Willenhall Town (A). Record: 2002/03 18apps; 2003/04 32+2subs, 2goals; 2004/05 22+4subs, 1goal. Total: 72+6subs, 3goals.

MARK LEVERS

Born 1963. Local young midfield player who broke into the first team in 1980 and did well to hold on to a regular place for a year, showing great promise. Went on to play for a variety of local clubs including Eastwood Town, Stanton and Kimberley Town. Returned to Ilkeston later in his career when he was predominantly a reserve team player although he did feature in the first team. Debut: 8/11/80 v Guisborough (A). Last appearance: 30/3/91 v Malvern Town (A). Record: 1980/81 19apps, 1goal; 1981/82 13apps, 1goal; 1990/91 0+1sub. Total: 32+1sub, 2goals.

JOHN LEVERTON
Former Notts County outside left who joined in 1965. Had a brief run in the team during Autumn 1965 but failed to make the most of his opportunity. Made 6 appearances. Debut: 25/9/65 v Scunthorpe United Reserves (H). Last appearance: 15/1/66 v Alfreton Town (A).

GRAHAM LEWIS
Born Reading 15/9/1982. Left sided forward with pace who began at Reading as a schoolboy but made his League debut with Lincoln City (7apps). Subsequently played for a vast array of non League clubs beginning with Northwich Victoria, Frickley Athletic, Lincoln United, Goole, Brigg Town and Belper Town before joining Ilkeston for a couple of months in Autumn 2003 where he made 9 appearances. Later clubs included Gedling Town, Lincoln Moorlands, Reading Town, Bracknell Town and Burnham. Debut: 8/11/03 v Team Bath (A). Last appearance: 3/1/04 v Bedworth United (A).

JOHN LIMB
Clever striker signed from Long Eaton United whose craft and guile made Town's forward line far more potent after joining in December 1975. Made an immediate impact by scoring the winner on his debut. Scored 11 goals, including one penalty and a hat-trick against his former club, in 18 full appearances plus one as substitute. Left in Summer 1976 in search of better terms and duly played for Belper Town and Arnold. Debut: 20/12/75 v Belper Town (A). Last appearance: 19/4/76 v Mexborough Town Athletic (A).

PETER LINCOLN
Left half who made a single appearance away at Retford Town on 22/12/51 but was unable to keep the legendary Horace Hackland out of the team. Later played for Heanor Athletic, Stamford and Wilmorton.

JAMES LINDLEY
Born Sutton-in-Ashfield 23/7/1981. Young, promising Notts County goalkeeper signed on a months loan in December 1999 who performed well on his debut but therafter looked shaky at times. Had subsequent loan spells at Gresley Rovers, Lincoln City and Mansfield Town before signing permanently for Hucknall Town. Went on to play for Gresley Rovers, Tamworth and Stafford Rangers before he returned to Hucknall Town for whom he played in the 2004/05 FA Trophy Final. Spells at Harrogate Town and Alfreton Town followed and by the time he rejoined Ilkeston in December 2007 he was a far more experienced 'keeper but he failed to impress in a struggling team, eventually losing out to Phil Senior. Has since played for Hucknall Town, Retford United and Glapwell. Debut: 13/12/99 v Kings Lynn (H). Last appearance: 26/1/08 v Fleetwood Town (A). Record: 1999/00 4apps; 2007/08 7apps. Total: 11apps.  

REISS LINDSAY
Born 17/4/1991. Young reserves forward who made a single appearance as substitute away at Loughborough Dynamo on 25/11/08. Has since appeared for Breaston.
 
I LISTER
Christian name unknown. Made 2 substitute appearances, at home to Hinckley Athletic on 23/3/91 and away at Rocester on 11/5/91.

SAM LITCHFIELD
Born 12/10/1986. Promising forward on Nottingham Forest's and Wigan Athletic's books as a youngster before joining Ilkeston from Alfreton Town in 2006. Made 20 appearances in 2006/07 although 15 were as substitute, scoring 3 times, but his form in the reserves suggested that he was one for the future. Had a loan spell at Gresley Rovers and has gone on to play for Eastwood Town, Belper Town and Shepshed Dynamo after a spell in the United States playing for Embry Riddle University where he was studying on a Sports Scholarship. Debut: 28/8/06 v Leek Town (A). Last appearance: 16/1/07 v Alfreton Town (A).
 
W LLOYD

Christian name unknown. Capable full back who could play on either flank who joined Ilkeston in Summer 1946. Made 15 appearances in 1946/47, picking up a Derbyshire Divisional Cup winners medal in his penultimate game. Later played for local sides Rutland United and Granby. Debut: 7/9/46 v Heanor Athletic (H). Last appearance: 5/4/47 v Ransome & Marles Reserves (H).

JONATHAN LOCKWOOD
Born c1971. Former Priory right back who made two appearances in 1992/93, at home to Rocester on 19/1/93 and away at Oldbury United on 6/2/93.

ANDY LODGE
Born Peterborough 17/5/1978. Played for Spalding United, Whittlesey, Bury Town, Wisbech Town, Mildenhall Town, Holbeach United and Stamford before making his League debut at Boston United (2apps). Joined Ilkeston in Autumn 2002 but failed to make a significant impact in a struggling team, playing at left back or in a left sided midfield role. Made 7 appearances before moving on to St Albans City, Kettering Town, Blackstones, Stamford and Wisbech Town. Debut: 26/11/02 v Shepshed Dynamo (A). Last appearance: 14/1/03 v Burscough (H).

JONATHAN LOUKES
Born Sheffield 12/6/1988. Once on Barnsley's books, a midfielder who broke into the team towards the end of the 2006/07 season and made 2 full appearances plus 3 as substitute. Debut: 31/3/07 v Burscough (A). Last appearance: 28/4/07 v Radcliffe Borough (H). Has since appeared for Weymouth, Selby Town and Stafford Rangers.

ANDY LOVE

Born Grimsby 28/3/1979. Made his League debut with home town club Grimsby Town (12apps) before moving into non League, initially on a loan deal, with Ilkeston in Summer 1999. Not the club's finest ever goalkeeper but nevertheless a popular figure who achieved cult status with supporters. Capable of making outstanding saves but silly errors that sometimes crept into his game prevented him from becoming a permanent fixture in the team. Spent several seasons at Ilkeston although he went into temporary retirement in 2002 as injury problems and a loss of form appeared to affect him. Won a Derbyshire Senior Cup winners medal in 1999/00 and played in the FA Cup First Round tie at Swindon Town the following season. Debut: 21/8/99 v Crawley Town (H). Last appearance: 11/10/04 v Rugby United (H). Record: 1999/00 24apps; 2000/01 23apps; 2001/02 27apps; 2002/03 16apps; 2003/04 14apps. Total: 104apps.

DEAN LOWE
Goalkeeper who made 19 appearances during the 1985/86 season, taking over from Alan Rigby when he emigrated to New Zealand. Became well known on the local non League circuit playing for clubs such as Hucknall Rolls Royce, Priory, Borrowash Victoria, Matlock Town, Hucknall Town and Heanor Town. Debut: 14/12/85 v Sutton Town (A). Last appearance: 11/5/86 v Farsley Celtic (H).

RICHARD LUCAS

Born Chapeltown 22/9/1970. Represented Sheffield and Yorkshire Boys as a youngster and progressed through the ranks to make his League debut at Sheffield United (10apps). Then had a long career in the lower divisions of the Football League with Preston North End (50apps), Lincoln City on loan (4apps), Scarborough (72apps), Hartlepool United (49apps, 2goals) and Halifax Town (48apps) before moving into non League football. Spells at Boston United, Hednesford Town, Gainsborough Trinity and Stocksbridge Park Steels preceded his move to Ilkeston in Summer 2004 where his vast experience and versatility in defence, playing in the middle or at left back, was an asset as the club headed for promotion to the Unibond League Premier Division. However, he lost his place during the second half of the season, making 29 appearances including 6 as substitute in total. Debut: 30/8/04 v Eastwood Town (H). Last appearance: 19/4/05 v Mossley (H).  
  
CRAIG LUDLAM

Born Sheffield 8/11/1976. Brother of Ryan. Began with Sheffield Wednesday but made his League debut during a loan spell at Notts County (1app) before moving into non League with Matlock Town. Joined Ilkeston in Summer 1997 and spent his first season usually at left back before switching flanks thereafter. Did well as a full back who enjoyed going forward during his first two seasons but then struggled for form, appeared to lose confidence, and received some criticism from supporters. Left in 2000 and went on to play for Hucknall Town, Stafford Rangers, Worksop Town, Stocksbridge Park Steels, Belper Town, Parkgate and Staveley Miners Welfare. During his time at Ilkeston he twice played in the Second Round of the FA Cup, against Scunthorpe in 1997/98 and Rushden & Diamonds two years later, won Derbyshire Senior Cup winners medals in 1998/99 and in 1999/00 when he came on as substitute in the Final and scored, and helped the club win promotion to the Southern League Premier Division in 1997/98. Record: 1997/98 44+5subs, 1goal; 1998/99 41+3subs, 4goals; 1999/00 32+7subs; 2000/01 4apps. Total: 121+15subs, 5goals. Debut: 25/8/97 v Stafford Rangers (H). Last appearance: 28/8/00 v Stafford Rangers (A). 

RYAN LUDLAM

Born Carlisle 12/5/1979. Defender who vied with Darren Knowles for the right back slot throughout the 2005/06 season. With Sheffield United as a youngster but didn't make the first team and moved into non League with Worksop Town, Buxton and Belper Town before joining Ilkeston in Summer 2005. After a season with The Robins, during which he scored twice in 39 appearances including 5 as substitute, he moved on to play for Stocksbridge Park Steels, Worksop Town and Sheffield. Picked up a Derbyshire Senior Cup winners medal on his final appearance as well as a Presidents Cup runners up medal days earlier. Debut: 23/8/05 v Leek Town (H). Last appearance: 2/5/06 v Mickleover Sports (H).

MICHAEL LYNCH
Reserves forward who had been on Mansfield Town's and Bradford City's books. Made 2 appearances late in the 1996/97 season, at home to Stafford Rangers on 25/3/97 and away at Sandiacre Town on 10/4/97.

MICHAEL LYONS
Born 24/4/1981. Former England Schoolboy international who was on Derby County's books. Played for a number of non League clubs including Hinckley United, Burton Albion, Shepshed Dynamo, Loughborough University and Mickleover Sports before joining Ilkeston in Autumn 2003. Dynamic, diminuitive midfielder who scored on his debut, scoring 4 goals in a total of 22 appearances. Signed for Belper Town in 2004 and has since played for Gresley Rovers, Enfield Town, Nottsborough, Nuneaton Town, Shepshed Dynamo and Gresley FC. Debut: 8/11/03 v Tam Bath (A). Last appearance: 20/3/04 v Clevedon Town (A).
 
PAT LYONS
Born Derby. Brother of Michael. All action midfielder with good vision and passing skills not dissimilar to his brother. Was on Derby County's and West Bromwich Albion's books before joining Burton Albion. Came on loan to Ilkeston for a month in December 2001 and made a memorable debut but wasn't able to sustain such high standards during his stay. Signed for Worcester City permanently but returned to Ilkeston towards the end of the 2004/05 season as the team homed in on promotion to the Unibond League Premier Division. Left in 2006, collecting a Presidents Cup runners up medal on his final appearance, and joined Mickleover Sports and then Gresley Rovers. A qualified coach who runs courses for youngsters. Debut: 15/12/01 v Bath City (H). Last appearance: 25/4/06 v Bradford Park Avenue (H). Record: 2001/02 4+1sub; 2004/05 2+2subs; 2005/06 5+7subs. Total: 11+10subs.

STEVE LYONS
Midfielder who made 10 appearances, two of them as substitute, at the end of the 1990/91 season. Debut: 1/4/91 v West Bromwich Town (A). Last appearance: 9/5/92 v Darlaston (H).
