PAT GALLIGAN
Local hard working midfielder who made his debut during the 1978/79 season after being promoted from the reserves and had a few opportunities in the first team without becoming an automatic choice despite his initial promise. Played for Erewash Colts as a youngster. Debut: 18/11/78 v Appleby Frodingham (A). Last appearance: 15/9/79 v Spalding United (A). Record: 1978/79 15+1sub, 2goals; 1979/80 4apps. ROSS GARDNER

Born South Shields 15/2/1985. Former England Youth and Under 20 international who started out at Newcastle United but made his League debut at Nottingham Forest (28apps). Moved on to Port Vale (16apps, 1goal) before signing for Ilkeston in Summer 2007. Busy, attack minded midfielder who struggled for form and fitness initially but who enjoyed a terrific second half to the 2007/08 season, scoring goals regularly. Joined Eastwood Town in May 2008 after making 47 appearances for Ilkeston, including one as substitute, and scored 12 goals. Debut: 18/8/08 v Ashton United (A). Last appearance: 26/4/09 v Whitby Town (A).

JULIAN GARMSTON
Much travelled aggressive midfield player well known in local circles having played for Arnold, Sutton Town, Priory, Radford and Stanton. Joined Ilkeston in 1989 and spent a little over a year at the club before moving back to Priory. Later played for Heanor Town, Kimberley Town where he was player manager, and managed Radford. Debut: 30/9/89 v Grimsby Borough (H). Last appearance: 13/10/90 v Newhall United (H). Record: 1989/90 26+1sub, 1goal; 1990/91 5+2subs, 1goal. Total: 31+3subs, 2goals.

SCOTT GARNER

Born Coventry 26/9/1989. Impressive teenage central defender signed on loan from Leicester City in October 2008 who showed great maturity. Recalled by his club early in 2009 before he was immediately transferred to Mansfield Town. Has gone on to captain the England 'C' team, and has since signed for Grimsby Town. Made 14 starts and one substitute appearance for Ilkeston, scoring twice. Debut: 21/10/08 v Bradford Park Avenue (H). Last appearance: 3/1/09 v Sheffield (H).

JOHN GARVIE

Born Bellshill, Scotland 16/10/1927. Began with his local club before joining Hibernian. Made his Scottish League debut while on loan at Hamilton Academical (5apps, 1goal) before trying his luck South of the border. Signed for Preston North End (5apps) and went on to enjoy a fine career at Lincoln City (183apps, 73goals) prior to joining his final League club Carlisle United (25apps, 6goals). Moved into non League football with Boston United, Stamford and Corby Town and signed for Ilkeston during Summer 1962 where it was hoped he would form a deadly strike duo with former Lincoln colleague Andy Graver. However, injuries had taken their toll and an injured instep suffered on his debut restricted his appearances further. Made just 5 appearances. Debut: 18/8/62 v Matlock Town (H). Last appearance: 15/9/62 v Boston United (A).

CRAIG GAUNT

Born Sutton in Ashfield 31/3/1973. A good header of a ball, this tall commanding centre half had spells at Arsenal, Huddersfield Town and Chesterfield as a youngster but failed to break into League football, a lack of pace possibly preventing him from making it at the highest level. Spells with Scarborough, Bromsgrove Rovers and Kettering Town followed from where he signed for Ilkeston on a months loan in November 1997. Appeared for several other non League clubs going forward including Grantham Town, Chester City, Moor Green, Hucknall Town and Leigh RMI before returning to Ilkeston on a permanent basis in December 2004 to help the club win promotion from the Unibond League First Division. When manager Phil Stant was dismissed early the following season he became joint caretaker manager with Nigel Jemson although it was Jemson who got the job permanently. Continued to play regularly in the first team until October 2006, and picked up Derbyshire Senior Cup winners and Presidents Cup runners up medals in 2005/06. Moved to Glapwell where he passed on his vast experience to good effect. Debut: 8/11/1997 v Paget Rangers (H). Last appearance: 30/9/06 v Rugby Town (A). Record: 1997/98 2+1sub; 2004/05 15+3subs, 1goal; 2005/06 54apps, 3goals; 2006/07 12+1sub. Total: 83+5subs, 4goals.

LEN GAYNOR
Born Ollerton 22/9/1925. Inside left who impressed during his regular appearances in Town's debut season, scoring 11 goals in 26 appearances. Moved on to Brinsley Welfare and Eastwood Colliery before becoming the first Town player to progress into League football, albeit indirectly. Spells at Hull City (2apps), Bournemouth (51apps, 12goals), Southampton (12apps, 1goal), Aldershot (62apps, 9goals) and Oldham Athletic (5apps) indicate a useful career.

DONOVAN GETHFIELD
Born Coventry. Immense central defender who started with Coventry City and played for a number of Midlands non League clubs including Atherstone United, VS Rugby, Coventry Sporting, Banbury United, Tamworth, Bedworth United, Leicester United, Arnold Town and Grantham before joining Ilkeston late in the 1995/96 season. Appointed captain he stayed with the club despite relegation to the Southern League Midland Division but struggled for fitness and left later in the year. Continued in non League football with Raunds Town, Arnold Town and Shepshed Dynamo before being appointed as manager of Ollerton Town. Debut: 16/3/96 v Salisbury City (H). Last appearance: 8/10/96 v Gresley Rovers (H). Total: 1995/96 13apps, 1goal; 1996/97 9apps, 1goal. Total: 22apps, 2goals.

PADDY GETHINGS

Right back previously with Long Eaton United who joined Ilkeston in Summer 1982 and played a prominent part in the glorious FA Trophy run that took the club into the last 16 with victories over Conference clubs Stafford Rangers and Barnet. An ever present in 1982/83 he picked up a Derbyshire Senior Cup winners medal as part of the team that lifted the cup after a barren spell of 20 years. Left in Summer 1983 for Keyworth United and played Sunday football for Selston before returning to Ilkeston for a brief spell in Autumn 1984. Later played for Players Athletic. Debut: 28/8/82 v Emley (H). Last appearance: 23/10/84 v Dudley Town (A). Record: 1982/83 55apps, 1goal; 1984/85 7apps. Total: 62apps, 1goal.

JIMMY GHAICHEM

Born Sheffield 11/4/1984. Tricky, nimble and hard working right sided midfielder who started out with Mansfield Town but made his League debut with Peterborough United (2apps). After a loan spell with Rushden & Diamonds he went on to play for a succession of non League clubs including Belper Town, Buxton, Worksop Town, Alfreton Town, Parkgate, Goole and Harrogate Town before joining Ilkeston in March 2010. Stayed with the club for the remainder of the season, scoring 1 goal in 9 appearances, five of which were as substitute. Left in May 2010. Debut: 13/3/10 v Blyth Spartans (H). Last appearance: 13/4/10 v Solihull Moors (H).

STUART GIDDINGS
Born Coventry 27/3/1986. Former England youth international defender whose promising career was halted by injuries. Started out with Coventry City (16apps) and had a spell on loan at Oldham Athletic (2apps) before moving into non League football with Hinckley United. Returned to League action with Darlington (22apps) before joining Ilkeston in Summer 2010. Made 4 appearances before becoming a free agent when Ilkeston went into liquidation in September 2010. Debut: 14/8/10 v Vauxhall Motors (H). Last appearance: 4/9/10 v Eastwood Town (H).

ROBERT GILL

Born Nottingham 10/2/1982. Began with Nottingham Forest before making a single League appearance with Doncaster Rovers. Next had spells with Chester City, Scarborough, Burton Albion, Forest Green Rovers, Dagenham & Redbridge and Hucknall Town. A useful forward and good in the air he joined Ilkeston towards the end of the 2005/06 season, making an immediate impact scoring in his first two games, and soon picked up a Presidents Cup runners up medal. Left Ilkeston in Spring 2007 and has since played for Gedling Town, Arnold Town and Hucknall Town. Debut: 4/3/06 v Ashton United (H). Last appearance: 17/2/07 v Gateshead (H). Record: 2005/06 13apps, 5goals; 2006/07 12+12subs, 7goals. Total: 25+12subs, 12goals.

NIGEL GILLOTT

Well travelled forward on the local non League scene who previously had played for Radford Olympic, Heanor Town, Sutton Town and Worksop Town. First appeared for Ilkeston towards the end of the 1988/89 season and some useful displays during the first half of the 1989/90 campaign led to his departure to Matlock Town in December. Continued his career in local non League football with Heanor Town, Priory and Hucknall Town. Debut: 25/3/89 v Grimsby Ross (A). Last appearance: 25/11/89 v Melton Town (H). Record: 1988/89 2apps, 1goal; 1989/90 18apps, 5goals. Total: 20apps, 6goals.

ROGER GILLOTT
Outside left signed from Heanor Town who played well at times without ever proving he was the answer to a problem position at the time. After appearing regularly following his arrival in November 1964 during the remainder of the season he only appeared occasionally thereafter and the arrival of Arthur Orridge in Summer 1966 spelled the end of his time at the club. Went on to play for Alfreton Town. Debut: 21/11/64 v Matlock Town (H). Last appearance: 27/8/66 v Matlock Town (A). Record: 1964/65 21apps; 1965/66 5apps, 3goals; 1966/67 2apps. Total: 28apps, 3goals.

JOHN GISSING

Born Stapleford 24/11/1938. Signed by Notts County (22apps, 1goal) from Stapleford Boys Club he also appeared in the League for Chesterfield (2apps). Moved into non League with Alfreton Town and Arnold before joining Ilkeston in September 1964. An enigmatic right winger who combined moments of exceptional quality with mediocrity his inconsistency cost him his place on several occasions. When on the verge of cementing his place during the 1965/66 season he fractured his leg in a rough game at Ashton United and never played for the club again. Debut: 26/9/64 v Retford Town (H). Last appearance: 2/10/65 v Ashton United (A). Record: 1964/65 17apps, 2goals; 1965/66 4apps, 2goals. Total: 21apps, 4goals.

CHRIS GLARVEY
Born Sheffield 3/12/1983. Former Sheffield United and Kings Lynn player who made a single appearance at left back away at Bedworth United on 3/1/04. Went on to play for Corby Town, Lincoln United, Worksop Town and Goole.

NEIL GLASSER
Born Nottingham 17/10/1974. Represented South Notts Boys at under 15 level and was on the books of both Nottingham clubs as a youngster. Midfielder who made 3 appearances for Ilkeston towards the end of the 1995/96 season having previously been with Bromsgrove Rovers. Did not make much of an impact but generally did well in a non League career that later took on spells at Grantham Town, Burton Albion and Worksop Town. Debut: 16/3/96 v Salisbury City (H). Last appearance: 4/5/96 v Sudbury United (H).

MICK GODDARD

Born Sheffield c1979. Striker with an excellent scoring record before and after joining Ilkeston but who never quite delivered at the club and failed to win over the supporters. Formerly with Hallam, Worksop Town and Alfreton Town he signed for Ilkeston in December 2004 to assist with the club's promotion push from the Unibond League First Division. Lost his place towards the end of the 2005/06 season although he returned in the final game to help the team win the Derbyshire Senior Cup. Has since played for Retford United, Sheffield, Goole and Frickley Athletic. Debut: 18/12/04 v Workington (A). Last appearance: 2/5/06 v Mickleover Sports (H). Record: 2004/05 19+1sub, 5goals; 2005/06 24+11subs, 9goals. Total: 43+12subs, 14goals.

MATT GODDEN
Born Canterbury 29 July 1991. Loan signing from Scunthorpe United who joined Ilkeston for two months in January 2010. Young striker who had plenty of skill but lacked composure in front of goal. Made 10 appearances plus one as substitute, scoring one goal. Debut: 16/1/10 v Fleetwood Town (A). Last appearance: 6/3/10 v Redditch United (A). Previously had a loan spell at Brigg Town.

CYRIL GOODMAN

Goalkeeper previously with Nottinghamshire Amateurs whose single appearance was in Ilkeston's first ever Central Alliance fixture, at home to Grantham Reserves on 23/8/47. Town lost 5-1 and he never played again although there is no evidence of any criticism of his performance.

GOODRUN
Christian name unknown. Made a single appearance as substitute at home to Long Eaton United on 28/9/70.

BERNARD GOODWIN
Former Stanton Ironworks left half who made 4 appearances towards the end of the 1950/51 season when Horace Hackland was unavailable. Debut: 18/4/51 v Linby Colliery (A). Last appearance: 12/5/51 v South Normanton Miners Welfare (A).

ANDY GORDON
Player previously with Long Eaton United who made 2 substitute appearances in January 1991. Made his debut at home to West Bromwich Town on New Years Day and appeared again in the Tividale home game four days later.

DEAN GORDON

Born Croydon 10/2/1973. Much travelled, respected and vastly experienced left back who joined Ilkeston during the 2008/09 season but was past his best and his opportunities, usually in central defence, were limited. Capped 13 times by England Under 21s, he started out with Crystal Palace (201apps, 20goals) before signing for Middlesbrough (63apps, 5goals). Had a loan spell at Cardiff City (7apps, 1goal) prior to joining Coventry City (35apps, 1goal) where he went on loan to Reading (3apps). His next club was Grimsby Town (20apps, 2goals) and then he went to Cyprus to play for APOEL. Returned home and appeared for non League Crook Town before briefly re-entering League football with Blackpool (1app). A return to non League football with Lewes, Crook Town and Worksop Town followed and then came a stint in New Zealand with Albany United, Auckland City (5apps, 2goals) and New Zealand Knights (6apps). Once more he returned to England with Lewes before remarkably playing League football again for the last time with Torquay United (8apps). Spells at Whitby Town and Newcastle Blue Star as joint manager preceeded his time at Ilkeston. Had a loan spell with Glapwell while with The Robins and signed for Workington upon leaving the club. Made 4 starts for Ilkeston plus 3 as substitute. Debut: 6/9/08 v Marine (A). Last appearance: 12/2/09 v Mickleover Sports (A). 

CHRIS GORDONS

Young reserves goalkeeper who appeared occasionally during 2000 but was unable to force his way into the first team on a regular basis. Debut: 22/2/00 v Mickleover Sports (A). Last appearance: 7/11/00 v Altrincham (A).Record: 1999/00 3apps; 2000/01 2apps.

DAVID GOUGH
Former Wyre Villa, Morecambe, Chorley and Fleetwood midfield player who made a single appearance away at Hastings Town on 3/2/96.

DEREK GOULD

Born c1934. Former Mapperley Celtic player and Ilkeston reserve who made a single appearance at home to Long Eaton Town on 12/4/52 at centre forward. Moved on to Sutton Town.

ROB GOULD

Born Northampton 7/7/1975. Nephew of former Wales manager Bobby Gould. Tall central defender who spent the 2000/01 season at Ilkeston playing as an attack minded right wing back and had an extraordinary scoring record for a defender, top scoring with 14 goals including 4 in his first four games. His defensive work was less effective, however. Previously with Cogenhoe United, Racing Club Warwick, Raunds Town and Rothwell Town. Has since played for a large number of clubs including Tamworth, St Albans City, Bishops Stortford, Grantham Town, Kettering Town, Stamford, Rugby Town, Aylesbury United, Hemel Hempstead and Wellingborough Town. Made 46 appearances including one as substitute. Debut: 19/8/00 v Merthyr Tydfil (A). Last appearance: 21/4/01 v Salisbury City (A).

DAVID GRAHAM

Born Edinburgh 6/10/1978. Classy forward capped 8 times by Scotland Under 21s who began with Rangers (3apps) and Dunfermline Athletic (31apps, 4goals) during which time he had a loan spell with Inverness Caledonian Thistle (2apps). Moved south of the border and enjoyed success with Torquay United (110apps, 47goals) before progressing to Wigan Athletic (30apps, 1goal), Sheffield Wednesday (24apps, 2goals), Huddersfield Town on loan (16apps, 9goals), Bradford City on loan (22apps, 3goals) and a return to Torquay on loan (7apps). Left Hillsborough and signed for Gillingham (16apps, 3goals) and then Lincoln City (9apps) before moving into non League football with Sheffield. Joined Ilkeston in Summer 2009 but his first season was wrecked by a badly broken leg sustained at Blyth Spartans in October. Returned to the team at the start of the 2010/11 season and became a free agent when Ilkeston went into liquidation in September 2010 whereupon he rejoined Sheffield. Has since played for Worksop Town and Hucknall Town. Debut: 8/8/09 v Droylsden (A). Last appearance: 4/9/10 v Eastwood Town (H). Record: 2009/10:8+9subs,4goals; 2010/11: 3+1sub, 1goal. Total: 11+10subs, 5goals. 

PAUL GRAINGER
Former Burton Albion, Shepshed Charterhouse and Grantham midfielder with a decent pedigree who made 4 appearances for Ilkeston at the start of the 1983/84 season, scoring once. Debut: 27/8/83 v Boston (H). Last appearance: 17/9/83 v Gainsborough Trinity (A).


ARTHUR GRANT

Outside left who gave Ilkeston great service after signing from Stanton Ironworks in 1947. Had pace, could cross accurately, and scored his share of goals as well as being a decent penalty taker. Was an ever present in 1947/48, won a Derbyshire Senior Cup winners medal in 1948/49, and although he lost his place in the side to Owen Johnson for a time in 1949/50, he played regularly the following season and picked up a Derbyshire Divisional Cup winners nedal and a Central Alliance League Cup runners up medal. Debut: 23/8/47 v Grantham Reserves (H). Last appearance: 12/5/51 v South Normanton Miners Welfare (A). Record: 1947/48 37apps, 10goals (3pens); 1948/49 34apps, 7goals (1pen); 1949/50 15apps, 1goal; 1950/51 34apps, 9goals. Total: 120apps, 27goals (4pens).

ANDY GRAVER

Born Craghead 12/9/1927. Prolific scoring centre forward in his League days where he was best known for his exploits with Lincoln City and he remains their all time top scorer. Started out with Quaking House Juniors, Willington Athletic and Annfield Plain before becoming Jackie Milburn's understudy at Newcastle United (1app). Then joined Lincoln for the first of three spells there (172apps, 107goals) and Leicester City (11apps, 3goals) before re-signing for Lincoln (15apps, 4goals). Transferred to Stoke City (37apps, 12goals) and then moved to non League Boston United before his final spell at Lincoln (89apps, 33goals). His League days now over he played for Skegness Town prior to joining Ilkeston in Summer 1962. Moved intelligently on and off the ball and was a good header, but despite being top scorer his tally of 16 goals was less than anticipated. After starting the following season in the first team he was soon dropped and an injury whilst playing for the reserves hastened his retirement. Won a 1962/63 Derbyshire Senior Cup winners medal. Debut: 18/8/62 v Matlock Town (H). Last appearance: 2/11/63 v Gainsborough Trinity (H). Record: 1962/63 38apps, 16goals; 1963/64 10apps, 3goals. Total: 48apps, 19goals. 

ALFA GRAY

Young reserve who made a single appearance as substitute away at Rocester on 30/8/03.

SIMON GRAYSON
Born Sheffield 21/10/1968. Tall target man and a good header with decent ball skills who used his experience well at Ilkeston but sadly struggled with injuries. Started out with Sheffield United and went on to play for Chesterfield (8apps) and Hartlepool United (44apps, 13goals). Had a decent career in non League with Sheffield, Gainsborough Trinity, Witton Albion, Halifax Town and Boston United before signing for Ilkeston in March 1996, making an immediate impact scoring in his first two games. Injury caused him to miss the first half of the 1996/97 season but he returned to score frequently despite struggling for full fitness. Left the club at the end of the season, picking up a Derbyshire Senior Cup runners up medal in his final game. Debut: 23/3/96 v Rushden & Diamonds (H). Last appearance: 10/5/97 v Gresley Rovers (A). Record: 1995/96 10apps, 4goals; 1996/97 13+13subs, 7goals. Total: 23+13subs, 11goals.

ALAN GREEN

CALLUM GREEN

Born Sheffield 18/4/1989. Lively and skilful forward signed from Burton Albion's youth set up in May 2008 after a spell with Derby County. Spent the 2008/09 season as a fringe player but left at the end when the reserves set up was disbanded. Made 14 appearances including 4 starts, and scored twice. Signed for Frickley Athletic in Summer 2009 and has since played for Glapwell. Debut: 13/9/08 v Matlock Town (H). Last appearance: 25/4/09 v Whitby Town (A).

EDDIE GREEN

Goalkeeper well known on the East Midlands scene who played for England at schoolboy and Under 18 levels. Had played for Grantham, Stamford, Retford Town and Worksop Town prior to joining Ilkeston early in the 1986/87 season. Made 24 appearances before leaving at the season's end and later clubs included Belper Town and Heanor Town.

FRANNY GREEN
Born Nottingham 25/4/1980. Was introduced into the first team from the youth set up in 1997 as a slighly built striker with raw potential. Despite not being quite ready for this progression his potential was noted by Peterborough United who soon paid £25,000 for his services, a record transfer sale for Ilkeston. Spent several seasons in the lower divisions of the Football League as a creative forward, playing for Peterborough United (108apps, 14goals), Lincoln City (100apps, 18goals), Boston United (45apps, 5goals) and Macclesfield Town (65apps, 14goals). Returned into non League football with Kettering Town, and Oxford United and Brackley Town. Made 5 appearances for Ilkeston, all as substitute. Debut: 25/1/97 v Moor Green (H). Last appearance: 3/5/97 v Sutton Coldfield Town (H).

LIAM GREEN

Born Grimsby 17/3/1988. Left sided midfielder who could also play at left back. Hard working player who joined Ilkeston from Boston United in July 2009 having had spells at Burton Albion and Doncaster Rovers where he made 2 League appearances. PAUL GREEN
Left back previously with Plessey who joined Ilkeston during the Summer of 1975 who played regularly during the first three months of the 1975/76 season, making 12 appearances in total. Could strike a ball with power and had played for the Notts FA Select XI prior to joining The Robins. Debut: 16/8/75 v Louth United (H). Last appearance: 25/10/75 v Sutton Town (H).

DOUG GREGORY
Made a single appearance as an inside left early in Town's first ever season before re-appearing as an attack minded left half, with some success, midway through the 1947/48 season. After failing to cement a first team place in 1948/49 due to the arrival of Jack Stacey he left and went on to play for Stanton Ironworks, Teversal & Silverhill and Long Eaton Town. BRYN GUNN

Born Kettering 21/8/1958. Vastly experienced defender who joined Ilkeston in Summer 1995 for their very first season in the Southern League Premier Division. Was past his best but could not be held responsible for the team's defensive shortcomings. Started out with Nottingham Forest (131apps, 1goal) where he had loan spells at Shrewsbury Town (9apps), Walsall (6apps) and Mansfield Town (5apps). Then signed for Peterborough United (131apps, 14goals) before moving on to Chesterfield (91apps, 10goals). A move into non League football with Corby Town, Hereford United and Hednesford Town followed prior to his arrival at Ilkeston. Made 35 appearances for The Robins before leaving in 1996, going on to Arnold Town where he had a long association including a time as joint manager. Debut: 19/8/95 v Worcester City (H). Last appearance: 19/3/96 v Atherstone United (H). 

SHANE GUYATT

Right back from Arnold Town who made a scoring debut after arriving at Ilkeston in Summer 1991. Made 17 starts plus 2 appearances as substitute as Town won the West Midlands Regional League First Division title and he collected a League Cup winners medal. He also appeared in Ilkeston's astonishing 5-1 FA Cup win at Southern League Grantham Town. Left in 1992 and future clubs included Gedling Town and Heanor Town. Debut: 17/8/91 v Wolverhampton United (A). Last appearance: 6/5/92 v Tividale (A).

COLIN GUYLER

Outside left signed in Summer 1963 with a decent pedigree but didn't make the expected impression. Made 8 appearances and scored 2 goals before losing his place to Mel Evason. He was on the losing side on all three of his home appearances. Previously with Notts County, Bourne Town, Sutton Town and Alfreton Town. Debut: 24/8/63 v Lockheed Leamington (H). Last appearance: 14/12/63 v Retford Town (A).
